2019 Youth Bridge / MiniBridge Tournament

A Youth Bridge/Minibridge tournament was held at the club on Sunday December 8th, with 22 participants all playing together. As always the club volunteer support was excellent - Lisa Burland gathered volunteers and arranged for members to provide refreshments (drinks and food) for all the students. The winners were:

Everyone had a great time. The event was really an introduction for the new players to see how bridge competitions were played, and for them to meet more students from other schools.    We will be holding our usual mini bridge event at the Fairmont Southampton on the Sunday afternoon at the regional, at which time, we will be gaining interest for our sponsored trip to Montreal next July (22-26th). 
Thanks to all our sponsors, and volunteers without whom the Youth Bridge development would not be possible.

2019 Christmas Party

The 2019 Christmas Party and Annual Prizegiving took place on Saturday 30th November.  A good time was had by all 81 attendees, with fantastic catering provided by Food4Thought.  Congratulations to Joyce Pearson who won the Culcutta event and Ed Betteto who won the Bill Tucker Trophy.

2019 Open Teams Championship

The Teams Championship took place on Saturday 23rd November with 9 teams in a 2 session event.    Congratulations to the winning team of Alan Douglas, David Cordon, Ed Betteto and Fabian Hope, with a score of 118.    Only one point behind them were the team of Elizabeth McKee, Diana Diel, John Burville and Mike Viotti with a score of 117

Junior Teams Champions 2019

Congratulations to the team of Samantha Pickering, Marion Silver, Jane Gregory and Nick Kempe, winners of the Junior Teams title for 2019.  They won by just 4 IMPs over the student team of Shane Kruger, Brett Baumgartner, Gareth Cooper and Max Santiago, who were steadily closing the gap but just failed in the last round to catch up and overtake the leaders.   In third place was the team made up of Joanne and Mike Dawson, Mark Stevens and Malcolm Moseley.  !0 teams took part over the two evenings - with a lot of our newer members having their first experience of teams.  Everyone won at least one of their eight matches.  Well done.

2019 Open Pairs Champions

The 2019 Open Pairs took place on Saturday 2nd November with a 2 session event.   16 pairs participated.  

Congratulations to the winners, Alan Douglas and David Sykes and well done to Marge Way and Misha Novakovic, who came second and Tony Sauanders and Charles Hall, who came third.
